Hi Everyone,
For various reasons I resigned my post earlier last week. Luckily my employer has a good notice period and I am owed several weeks holiday also. If I go easy I should be ok until Christmas-ish.
For the first time in 20 years I am out of work. I am half worried but also so relieved. It wasn't the job for me for various reasons.
I can do things that never got done etc etc. I can go to the gym in the middle of the day and just chill out (I paid a year in advance some months ago)
However one of my issues is lack of motivation. Never have I had so much time on my hands. What do people do to stave off "just wasting" the time.
I for example, fancy learning to program the PC and bike rides. Keeping the motivation will be the hard bit.
I did think about setting up a company and doing remote support for enterprise class servers (I specialise in RedHat Linux) but I am not sure setting up a company would be such a good idea.
How does one keep from straying as it where (Jeremy Kyle is quite interesting )

As someone who is not in your situation I can only guess and provide suggestions that I think I would do.
1) Keep a routine during the day, if you fall out of routine it is more likely you will lose your motivation even further and maybe end up doing down the depression route (worse case though)
2) If you have the funds to give it a go and you enjoy what you do then why not try it, it is a calculated risk that may or may not work and if it doesn't and you have calculated your possible losses then you will expect them (plus if you have enough money for 6 months this is a long enough time to give you a guide on how successful things are)....on the other hand it may be the best decision of your life.
3) Healthy body and mind, keep doing the gym but also make sure you train your brain regularly as well.
4) Enjoy a few weeks off when you finish to relax.
only suggestions but what I would be doing in your situation. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
