Co-op members credit card

Options
I'm not sure if this has been posted here before but I've just received my Co-op members pack and was pleasantly surprised to read that they are offering a rather good deal on their members credit card.

0% on BT and purchases for 6mths from account opening, with 2% BT fee capped at £100.

It also offers 1% cashback for purchases at Co-op stores and 0.5% for any other purchases elsewhere.

I thought it sounded pretty good and seriously thinking of applying for it. It is open to members only so get yourself down to your nearest Co-op and sign up for a dividend card if you're not already a member ;)

I have had one of these cards for a while now and you also get 0.5% dividend on balance transfers :)

Not sure how all this is going to be affected by todays announcement by Co-Op regarding the Dividend stopping and being replaced by Profit Sharing dependent on accounts held and purchases made in stores?

  • I've seen a few of these trade union affiliated cards mentioned in various forums and wondered about the practicality/legality of applying. I notice that Martin doesn't mention them in his articles.

    1. Do the T&Cs of the cards state that you have to be a member of the appropriate trade union?

    2. Do they check or is it assumed by accessing the website that you are a member?

From a personal point of view I am eligible for membership of one of them (NUT) and it seems to me that it might well be cheaper for me to join and to pay the annual membership subscription (leaving aside any other benefits it accrues) rather than a standard BT charge on other open-to-all "commercial" cards.
