Expereince of extenion on a lease hold property

Dear all,

I'm sorry if this is in the worng place, please let me know if I should move it.

Me and hubby purchased our ground flor flat in jan 2006. We are Lease holders and the other 2 flats and us will be taking on right to manage in the next couple of months. Me and hubby want to extend onto the back of the property... we are also the lease holders of the back garden. And our two neighbours have no objections.

My questions are:

1. must we own the free hold? or share of free hold?
2. Are we able to extend (assuming ll permissions are granted) on a lease hold property?
3. If we are are there anythings we should take into consideration
4. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Any commments gratefully recieved

The answers to your questions ( mainly, do you need permission to do this) should be in your lease.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
