A&L - changing name after marriage

Is it just me or are banks absolutely useless at doing allegedly straightforward things?!

I've been trying to change my surname on a joint current account with A&L for 25 days. Despite two official complaints (one from my branch manager) and a courtesy payment of £10 for the inconvenience, it has STILL not been done. All my direct debit requests keep bouncing and I'm getting confused about which signature to sign for which card...

To top it all off my husband has had HIS new card despite not requesting one and three working days later mine's still nowhere to be seen!

How hard can it be? Even NatWest managed to get me all my new stuff within a week!!

Keep a note of all the events so far and when they finally (fingers crossed) sort it all out, send them off a stinking letter explaining their incompetence. tell them that unless you get an official apology and some compensation higher than a token £10 you will be off to another bank...

I am with the A&L and had no difficultly when I changed my name ith them. Also when I got married my Hubby took my name and just sent our wedding certificate to them saying he was now taking my surname and had no problem. Even the passport office excepted it.

I've never heard of the groom taking the brides surname before. You might say he's bewitched ;)

I'd love to know why he changed his name, was it because yours would have sounded silly? (Some marry into mad names, my freind is now Kayleigh Daley)

Anyway, I changed my name with A&L last year when I married. As I don't have a local branch as such (about 10 miles away) I phoned and told them I was married blah blah. They said I was to send my marriage certificate signed by THE BANK MANAGER!! I said if I went to the bank for the manager to sign it then surely I could just change it there and I was phoning to see if I could just do it with my marraige certificate.

She said if I wanted to change it over the phone then the bank manager had to sign it ??????????... I just laughed, travelled 10 miles to bank and did it over the counter in 5 mins.

Surely if it had to be signed by BM then I would be in the bank ... anyway, it got sorted in the end, easy enough as well once I went to the bank. Sorry to hear your having problems.
