Hi Everyone!
Here's a quick question for you all.
I ordered a motherboard and CPU combo from Scan, and specifically asked the chap who I spoke to on the phone if they would work together.
He said they would.
They arrived, and didn't work together (it didn't display on screen - kept hanging and didn't make it to POST) I ran through the obvious checks but didn't have a replacement CPU to test it with - replaced every other part with no success.
I checked with Scan and they advised to send the board back to them but told me that if the items were faulty that I would be liable for a testing, collection, and redelivery charge. Which is fair enough, I suppose.
So I sent the products back. They came back to me and said "the motherboard needed a BIOS update, product not faulty, that will be £35+VAT, please".
Now I suppose you could argue that that is technically correct - the motherboard and CPU were not *faulty*, as such - but in my (vh) opinion, the fact that they have sold a motherboard and CPU which won't work together despite me checking that they would work together means they're in violation of the "fit for purpose" part of the SoGA, surely?
Any thoughts?

Firstly (kept hanging and didn't make it to POST) Can be fixed with a bios update current bios could have been bugged or so.
Plus what type of motherboard + socket etc did it have and CPU did you get.0 -
There's also the question of how you're meant to flash the bios if it won't POST. It wasn't faulty, but in the condition they sold it to you, it wasn't compatible.
Head over to Hexus.net and join their forum. Scan have a customer support forum over there. If you post explaining everything, you'll get everything sorted. They're a good company to deal with on the whole. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
Theres a few reason why it couldn't get to post. Not just because the CPU is not compatible.
No a days CPU require seperate power? Was that plugged in
Was correct memory in place.
Was correct header in place for power switch
PSU could be damaged0 -

What is your point? There are HUNDREDS of reasons why a system won't POST, not just a 'few'.
The fact remains that you can't flash the BIOS if the system won't boot up to start with.0 -

Seems like my comments have upset you in someway that you have to be very hostile towards me.
I was somple suggesting a "few" reason to why it wont start. Obviously you cant flash the bios when it wont post. But the reason in OP "Hangs at post" it can be fixed with a bios update.0 -

1) The motherboard isn't faulty
2) It has been checked for faults
3) The CPU is not compatible with the motherboard without flashing the BIOS
4) You then suggest a BIOS update (which we already know is what is needed (and have done since the thread was started)
5) You then ask what motherboard and CPU it is - which has no relevance as we already know what the problem is andhow to fix it.
All totally irrelevant. You have also been talking total nonsense in another thread this morning.
I agree with WG - Scan will sort it for you as they are a good company.0 -
I'd get them to update the BIOS and send it back to you free of charge. You can't be expected to update the BIOS of the mobo if you can't start it up?!! You're expected to have a compatible CPU just lying around?!0
