Help! Shower pressure problem!

We are after getting a new bathroom installed, but seem to have bad water pressure. When you turn the bath taps on full and then the basin, nothing comes out of the basin. The shower we have at the moment is electric, and we are quite happy with the flow and pressure, but we want to change to a valve one as they look nicer. The one we want is receommending pressure of 0.1 - 2 bar and for the shower head which is a fixed riser with a 6" shower head it recommends 0.2 - 2 bar. Do you think this would work? Or are electric showers better than valve ones if you have low pressure?

We hava combi boiler (about 5 yrs old) so can't have a pump, and we think the pressure problem is due to old lead pipes. We do not really want to change these at the mo because they go through next doors garden.

Any advice would be appreciated!!

My immediate thoughts are if the pressure is very low an electric shower won't work anyway. Also, the problem with a 6" shower rose will be volume as well as pressure. Can you tell us the makes and versions of what you are looking at and what your combi is, please?

If you have a Combi, you will have at least 1.5bar of pressure, so you should be ok with a valve shower(;) )But a BOB says you will have a problem with a 6" rose as you will not get the volume of water from the combi , so get a shower head a lot smaller.

Mira or Aqualisa or good showers

Such a useful thread. I have been wondering why my shower isn't pumped, I didn't realise its not possible with a combi. It wasn't very powerful, not surprising as the rose is about 10 inches across!

Are all shower roses interchangeable? This one screws into a wobbly pipe hats about an inch long (and an inch wide). its wobbly so you can angle the shower in any direction but in practice you need to have it flat or the water pours out of the lowest holes.

Most are interchangeable , 90% have a 1/2" BSP thread, you will not have the flow rate for a 10" rose.

  • Hi, sorry for my delay in replying - I do not have internet at home. It is a baxi combi boiler, but it is about 5 years old so does not have this modern in built pump thing. The shower we are trying to fit is the edwardian exposed shower valve and the merck 6" riser from https://www.bathstore.com.

Thanks for all your help - everybody on this site is so helpful!!
