new forest camping

we are looking to do a 3 night camp in the new forest and have found 2 camp sites hollands wood and holmsley , both are close to each other, just cant make our minds up . has any one been to either of these ? or which would you recommend ? we are taking a 4 and 1 year old i know holmsley has a play park but hollands wood has all those trees to play in. i keep going round in circles where to stay.

  • Hello,

I have stayed at both. They are both well looked after and clean.

I personally prefer Hollands Wood (In fact I am staying there this weeked!). Hollands wood is set in amongst the trees, you can walk into the forest or to the local village. There is no play park, but plenty of other children and open space.
Holmsley is more plain, with the trees around the outside and not through the middle. I also wouldn't think the play park is suitable for your 1 year old. It also has a large shop.
Just a word of warning, there are ponies wandering through the campsites, touch wood, we have not have a problem, but I have been very careful to teach my children that they are wild horses and you must be careful. The horses will not attack you, unless they feel under threat, be particular careful of the mares with foals.

    Happy Camping
  • thank you o_bee_one.

I think im swaying towards hollands wood, camping amongst all the trees gets a big thumbs up form my eldest. Are there any places, walks, eating out you would recommend ? all apreciated.

Enjoy your camping we are there there the following weekend after you.:)
