Changing banks

Hi, my husband and I are looking to change banks. We are currently with RBS and our main gripe with them is that their branches are not open on a Saturday and as my husband works full time that's the easiest day for him to get to the bank should he need to.

We've been looking at the Halifax Reward account. I just wondered if it's possible to have more than one of these accounts? We currently have two current accounts with RBS, one is our main current account where pay goes in and the other is used solely for our bill payments so we can transfer the amount of our bills into the bills account at the beginning of each month so we know exactly where we are!

What would the best way of switching be? Can we switch each account individually so we can get the switching bonus twice? Or would that not work as once we had switched the first account we would be existing customers of Halifax?

You can have as many current accounts as you like with Halifax, but you'll only get the £5 Reward on one joint and one single each (so you can have a single account, your husband can have a single account, and you can also have a joint account).

So if we had a main joint account where our wages get paid into then I have a single account for the bills (since it's me who deals with all the bills!) then we should get £10 a month rather than £5? Would that also mean that we'd get £50 switching bonus for each account?

Yes - to the £10, provided you fund each account with £1k monthly. (Which can just be a transfer from one of the accounts and then back again)

Haven't looked at the bonus requirements ....... but if you're switching two individual accounts then I would imagine the £50 applies. But I'll leave someone else to indicate if DDs have to be attached to each account being switched?
