From Income support to JSA

Am a lone parent currently on income support. The youngest will turn 9 in Feb next year. Have been told that i will be transferring to job seekers allowance by end of this year. Will have to go in every two weeks for an interview instead of 6 months. Am disabled getting disability allowance from DWP and also extra from IS.

Few questions i like to ask..

1. when transferring onto JSA will i have to fill out the forms again?

2. will i have to tell council tax/housing benefit? (why is JS/IS and CC/HB not linked via computer so we don't have to tell them everytime there is a change???)

3. will i still get 'extra' on JSA when i am claiming disability? (With three kids it helps)

4. due to personal health issues i try to lead a stress free/ form free/ hassle free life. Filling out forms i can just handle. Have been told that i can claim ill health and stay on IS. But what puts me off is regular check up with external bodies every couple of weeks. Have no problems seeing my doctor but stranger no thnxs. What do u suggest? Would love to get a job. Won't object to doing light desk job using computer etc. But there is nothing out there.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Have difficulty walking and back problems. Use walking sticks. Can't bend down or lift heavy items, Difficulty sitting in upright position. Only comfortable in reclined position.

As a single parent, I assume you do not spend most of your time in a reclined position?

No one here can tell you whether you are fit for work or not. Perhaps you should take advice on this from your GP?

If your fit for work claim JSA if you are not then claim ESA.
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

Yet you say you could do a light desk job?

Too many contradictions for people to give you advice on an internet forum. Contact your GP for more informed advice.

''Won't object to doing light desk job using computer etc'' meant using an office swivel chair which reclines like the one in managers office, with a large back if you know what i mean. That is what i use at home. Did not mean sitting upright writing reports etc if you know what i mean

You need to speak to your GP. No one on here can tell you which benefit to claim if you are not sure yourself.

You could put in a claim for ESA if you are really not fit for work, thats where they can call you in for a medical which you do have to attend. Part of the basis of getting that particular benefit. Are you currently claiming IB credits, I assume you are from where you say you get extra (£28.50ish extra???). If so then you are claiming as sick and not a lone parent so if you already have the IB credits your claim can carry on.

You will have to fill out forms again as all the benefits are different and although you can view info held we always need a new form for a new claim, also housing benefit etc do have access to the systems, for some reason half of them don't bother viewing and insist that we write them letters all the time. Just as maddening for us as it is for you.
