I *think* you need to report it to the police and get a crime reference number for the bank's fraud department. This is what I had to do when I had fraudulent activity on my credit card.

I have got a ref number from the police will give it to the bank. What can the police do can they trace the people that did it or will they just not even bother?

Someone stole my card when I was at work and spent about £600 on it in the space of an hour. SIX HUNDRED HARD EARNED POUNDS on booze and chav gear. I was livid as I've worked all my life and never been able to go on a spending spree like that.

I did get the money refunded by my bank but it took time and I had no debit card for about a week. I had to report it to the police to get a crime number. When I phoned to cancel the card they were still using it. I don't know why they couldn't just contact the shop to stall the thieving g1ts and get them arrested.

    Edit The police did nothing

That was what really bugged me even after I had my money refunded. It appeared that the card was still being used for at least an hour after it was cancelled. The police didn't see it as being worth their while doing anything about it so really, what deterant is there. They got away with loads of new gear scot free.

This was before the introduction of chip and pin though.

they probably could but don't hold your breathe.

OH card ( joint a/c) was used to pay a credit card off and neither Bank nor police were interested in chasing the thief!!!!
Yes we did get the money back took a little while tho. And luckly my card still worked ok, not that we could use the account as the thief had put us WAY over out limit.
