Accused of Sexual Harrassment at Work

Hi Posters.
I wonder if someone could offer a bit of constructive advice?
I am a Female Manager in my job and on Friday night, we were all out from working having a few drinks. One of the young lads, who thinks he is God's gift to women told me that he would never be sacked (I actually do have the authority to dismiss) and that our Boss would never sack him. I basically told him to wind his neck in and stop getting so complacent because he is on a written warning as it is and already on a sticky wicket.
This morning, I went into work and this lad (who I might add is 15 years youngers than me!) went into see our Boss and told our Boss that I had told him on Friday night that "I could sack him whenever I wanted to" and that I would s**g him and then sack him!"
The latter phrase is one I would never use anyway, and people that know me, know this too.
However, my boss quite rightly doesnt know who to believe and has said that we both need to do a lie detector test.
My questions are:
Can he force me to take a lie detector? Can I refuse?
I know I havent said what I am accused of but I have done some research and lie detectors aren't always correct but if I refuse it makes me look guilty.
Also, we had all had a lot to drink and so far, there have no witnesses being forthcoming to back him up - there won't be because I didnt say it anyway.
Also, just to add something else - he is renowned in the office for his sexual comments - unfortunately no one as yet has launched a grievance against him - funny eh?
I just dont know what to do. I have only been in my job 6 months and I love it.:(

Surely you must be a troll ?0

if you are innocent and have nothing to hide then why refuse it if they are going to pay for it.
Does seem strange that they would do it this way not just interview both staff and any witnesses, no witnessess would tend to lead unless there is an admission of guilt to the grievance not being upheldThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

Well, further to the post above your post - if you have nothing to hide, what is the problem ?0 -
Personally I'd say just take the test.
You're right..if you dont it'll look really suspicious.Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
I don't think lie detector tests count for very much. You are into a world of false positives and false negatives and 'if you've got nothing to hide'... They are not admissible in court and I think that would be the line I would take.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Take the test. If you don't you look guilty and would potentially strengthen any formal grievance/discliplinary.
Furthermore you also need to consider the appropiateness of telling staff you could sack them and that they should be careful as they are on warnings in the pub after work. Really not a good idea.0 -

Very much agree - unprofessional isn't the word.
Maybe OP is new to a job with the 'authority to dismiss' and does not understand their responsibilities.0 -
