I'm learning....

Options
Hello everyone. Hope you all had a nice long weekend.

I discovered the joy of blackberry picking and making apple and blackberry crumble this weekend.

I am off to pick some more blackberries this evening.

A question for all you lovely people. What can I do with the apple skin from the apples that i use for the crumble. It seems a shame to waste it.

I was thinking of apple crisps or something but i have no idea how i would go about making them.

Thanks

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have always cooked these up in a pan with a bit of water and some sugar then pour through a sieve for juice and push through a sieve again for some apple puree.

Oops by the way Welcome to Ol Style Becca! Sorry should have said that first! :)

you can boil up the skins and cores etc with some water and use this as a pectin for when you make jams/chutneys. (strain it and then freeze in portions)

I freeze each core as I use the apple, and wait until I have enough for a decent amount. It saves having to buy jam sugar:D

Hope all that makes sence

I personally dont use the apple skin because apple skin has up to 30 different chemicals on it, unless you pick your own from the garden or buy organic.

I like the idea of using it for pectin for jam, thanks.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

I am thinking of being brave and attempting to make jam, so i may use the skins for this.

    Thanks again

I've put them in the oven before (baking tray on the bottom) and roasted them. They're ok, but I prefer potato peelings done till crispy, they never last long in our house!

pol, can I ask, how do you cook your potato peelings, this is something i've never thought of, do you season them & just pop em on a baking tray? what temperature & how long?

Thanks for a brilliant idea :money:
