New combi boiler quote

I've just had a quote for a new boiler to replace my old unvented system. Can someone tell me if this is fair? It's for the removal of a system boiler and unvented tank, powerflushing the system and fitting:

Weissman Vitodens 200 30KW combi boiler
Scale reducer
New flue with elbows, + extra height kit for new regs
new hole in wall for flue, brick up old hole
Reconnect all pipes, etc
Test system

I think it's 2 days work for 2 people, then 1 further day for 1 person.

Been quoted £2,600 inc VAT.

Does this sound reasonable? Any help gratefully received due the fact this isn't a small sum of money!

Thanks in advance.

Good evening: you've been specced an excellent combi boiler (though I'd recommend the 35 kW Viessmann 200 for a higher flow rate) at a decent price. Why are you switching from an unvented cylinder and system boiler?

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
i m removing a biasi combi 10 year old tomorrow, same place everything and replaced with vailant ecotex plus 831 provided by plumber , powerflush, room timer, filters certificate for 1400..

dont know if its good deal but tried to buy boiler online and elsewhere and the cheapest i could find was 980.00 without flute etc so seem the plumber only makes about 270 or so for it , considering the flute around 50 quid, timer around 30 and fliters etc some money too

Good evening: £1400 a very cheap price for a supply and fit as detailed by you (unless I'm misinterpreting what you have written). Btw...the powerflush should take the better part of a day and if you live in a hard water area Vaillant requires a scale inihibitor to be fitted.

Let us know how you get on.

Hmmm! Strange comment that. One of Vaillants main selling points was that no scale inhibitor was needed in hard water areas, hence the 5 year warranty on the plate HE against scaling.

I've never fitted such a device on well over 100 Ecotec Plus 800 series and never had no scale problem.

Norwich is a very hard water area as well. Most manufacturers training courses I have recently attended, see to adopt the attitude that the water is passing through the plate too quick to let scale form.

Lucky you.;) See page 4. Extremely hard water down here in Kent. The OH fits a scale reducer on his Vaillant, Viessmann and Remeha installs as standard and it adds very little to the overall cost...also helps him meet 'Benchmark' requirements

    Anything for the OP?

    Hi Canucklehead,

Thanks for the reply. I'm replacing it because the plumber said that the whole install was a bodge job, and the expansion tank had been fitted incorrectly (i.e. it was upside down at ground level, and water would have to travel a long way up before coming back down out of the overflow pipe). He also said it could explode if various things failed, and because it's in a child's bedroom, it's a big risk.

Reason for switching to a combi is cost - the Weissman unvented cylinder adds another £1,200 plus fitting to the total. Currently have an Ariston cylinder, but it seems to be cheapest of the cheap - the thermostat doesn't even have a temperature scale on it.

Reason for the 30kw is because my gas pipe is only 22mm, and it's too costly to put a 28mm pipe in place up to the boiler to get the extra couple of litres of flow rate (i think it's about 13.5l/m for the 35kw compared to 11.5 for the 30kw). At least that's what was explained to me.

Does that all sound like a good plan? There's nothing specifically wrong with the current setup, in terms of functioning, but the risk aspect makes me quite worried.

Forgot to say in original post - he also quoted £200 for a Magnaclean. Does that sound a normal price? I'm sure I've seen them for £80 in online shops.

Oh, also, I've just read the quote again, and it was the Vitodens 100, not the 200. Apparently the 100 comes with a 5 year warranty, while the 200 only has 3 years. That sounds odd to me.

    Thanks again.

Hi...both the Viessmann Vitodens 100 and 200 series will have a 5 year warranty if installed by a Viessmann trained installer...more here.
You aren't required to fit a Viessmann unvented cylinder. You need another RGI through the door for advice and a quote for comparison. Make sure whoever you have in for a site survey etc. has a qualification for unvented cylinders aka G3...many RGIs will have this on the reverse side of their Gas Safe Register photo ID card and listed on the GSR site (though one trade poster on MSE has indicated that this isn't the case for him).

On the magnaclean front, the price is a bit over the odds for a supply and fit as part of a boiler install...the OH prefers the Spirovent Magnabooster and the Boiler Buddy over the Magnaclean.

Let us know how you get on.

Personally I would recommend the ATAG boilers as first choice, they are the Rolls Royce of boilers, then as a budget boiler the Broag Avanta Plus.

The Atag comes with an automatic full 5 year parts and labour warranty. Not all Broags do though, it will depend on your installer. Find a Broag installer who has a contract with them and you will get this for no extra charge.

Good evening: to avoid confusion in the minds of other MSErs ....a Broag Avanta Plus = Remeha Avanta Plus.... 5 year warranty if purchased via HPS so don't need a contract with Remeha down here...passed on to the customer at no extra charge.
