Toyota Hi Lux 3.0d 2010 Model

Hi ,

Thinking of buying one of these bad boys but would like to hear any reviews other than the usual car magazine or sales pitch views , I love the look of them and having originally been interested in the Nissan Navara then sitting in one and realising its interior is pre-1992 styling and the Mitsubishi L200 is just too underpowered and feeble , the Ford Ranger and Mazda versions look rubbish and the VW version will not be out for a bit and will be way overpriced anyhow.

I'd like to know what the ride is like , how is the gearbox , the interior , the pulling power unladen , motorway speeds does it bounce like a boat or is it smooth , is it a !!!!!! to park , turning circle , MPG and so forth...

Thanks guys , its always better to get real voices heard than those who just want to sell you something .

To be honest, all these big pick ups are going to bounce - they're designed to carry weight in the back and private users rarely fill 'em to their potential.

The HiLux is the best out there though (and that's coming from someone who loves his L200 ;) )

  • Cheers guys , yeah I can imagine them bobbing up n down with no load in the rear , I drive a concrete mixer and when its empty it does the same thing as they are designed to be loaded.

Have you had a pick up before ?
They are aren`t a car to drive (quite horrible when the novelty wears off) so if you don`t need a pickup and only buying one as an alternative 4wd think again you will be far better of getting a normal 4wd.
The Hilux holds its price better than the rest but depretiation on these commercial vehicles is still higher than a normal 4wd.
  • Hi Ranger8 , I would be getting the Hi Lux to put through my books being self employed otherwise I would go for the car I really want in the Ford Kuga just a shame they cannot be claimed back for hence the attractiveness of a 4x4 Pickup , thanks for the post mate

The Kugas nice,I would`ve thought with discount you`d be able to get one quite a bit cheaper than 3.0d Hilux.
I was looking to get the local Toyota dealers 3.0d Invincible demo but when it come up for sale a 6 mths old they still wanted over £22k for it !!!!!!!!!
The VW Amarok will be out in the Autumn and the price is supposed to be comparable and I think will be worth waiting for.

i bought a hilux double cab 1996-n reg 3 years ago after seing the top gear one ,... drove it to albania as it was for my brother... best car i ever had driven.. seating position perfect, engine with 2 batteries and still you could dive inside the engine-- that much space was there available to service ... its been used by my brother to go mountaining etc, and whenever i go back home it geats a good beating from me and the english friends who visit.
its still as new, and if the new toyota is a bit better that my old toyota, i wouldnt go for anything else .
I think the one you mention is top of the range and it has to be a good one .
ride quality is not the best on pick ups , specially on bumps..but they very comfy normally
problem i have found with all pick ups i driven is the steering cut is too small... some times you cant do a 3 point turn;)

As it is a commercial vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of over 2 tonnes, please be aware that the national speed limits for single carriageway roads and dual carriageways is 10mph lower than that for a car.
  • Cheers paddy never actually knew that , good advice pal
