Route advice: Heysham to York

Thank you all very much for the replies.
I think i will avoid the Buttertubs pass on the A59, potential animals and unlit / unfamiliar roads! Since it will be late at night and dark the scenery won't be of any consequence.
This was just the sort of advice I was after.
It sounds like the route i will go will be M6, M61, M62, M1, A64.

Oh I totally forgot to mention the M61! I've done that bit so many times I just automatically go onto it without thinking! How on Earth would you get onto the M62 East straight from the M6?!0

The M65, A56 and M66 rarely get as busy as the M61 in my experience. By the time you join the 62 at Birch you're past a lot of the "around Manchester" traffic, it's mostly trans-pennine by then and you don't get the "mire ups" as often as when you're joining the 62 from the 61.0 -
