Is Gumtree safe to sell a phone?

I have visions of someone turning up and running of with my iPhone or something, but after an ebay disaster it seems like the only option, would you recommend it?

What was the ebay disaster? There's usually steps you can take to make sure things go smoothly, if you haven't already.
As for gumtree, it *should* be safe with cash on collection, you'll probably get harrassed by lots of nigerian scammers though. I don't know, TBH, when I sold an expensive mobile on ebay once there was someone that wanted to collect and he was very persistent, kept trying to lower the price and generally badger me and in the end he was freaking me out so I blocked him.

Personally, I would meet with the buyer in a public place. It minimizes the risk, because there will be others around. I've done this plenty of times, and it has worked out OK. Also, it sounds a little far fetched, but the buyer will know who is in, at your house, and how to gain access, and the positions of high-value items - if you catch my drift. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.
