An install can take 30 mins to an hour (sometimes longer) but it sounds like yours has hung up, personally I would restart with a full disc re-format.

If the original became corrupt, id hazard a guess the hardrives not working to spec

rebooted it+got to the same...completing installation it just seems to stall.
rik any advice about the harddrive would be really great.
the laptop was in a repair shop+the guy says harddrive was fine,it just needed a reinstall costing £55.00.
my first thought was the harddrive thats why i took it to someone who knows a bit more than i do.

do you have a rescue disk that allows you to boot up seperately from CD? if so maybe you could try a program that looks at the drive SMART stats?

    Have a look at http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

    Hope it helps.

Fingers crossed for the format - sometimes there are bad indexes on the disc that can b*gger up an install. Formatting should remove this. NTFS rather than FAT as it is a lot more robust.

Ive never known the install to just 'stall'
I cant think of any reason why it would (Save perhaps youve got something plugged in the USB ports it doesnt like)

Im still thinking the hardrives not right
