im doing a fresh install of vista as original was corrupt.
ive got to the bit saying....
installing windows...
thats all the information we need right now, your pc will restart several times during installation.
copying files.(then a green tick)
expanding files.(green tick)
installing features.(green tick)
installing updates.(green tick)
completing installation.
its been on completing installation for ages, the other ones had a % counter,no counter appearded at completing installation.
does the laptop need to be connected to internet to complet installation? also laptop not restarted during all this.
or have i done something wrong?
any help would be great.
thanks

anyone got any advice?
or shall i just turn it off+try again?
thanks0 -
An install can take 30 mins to an hour (sometimes longer) but it sounds like yours has hung up, personally I would restart with a full disc re-format.0

If the original became corrupt, id hazard a guess the hardrives not working to spec:idea:0
-
rebooted it+got to the same...completing installation it just seems to stall.
rik any advice about the harddrive would be really great.
the laptop was in a repair shop+the guy says harddrive was fine,it just needed a reinstall costing £55.00.
my first thought was the harddrive thats why i took it to someone who knows a bit more than i do.0 -
im know trying it again.
ive formatted the partion first i hope this does it.
or should i have deleted this?0 -
do you have a rescue disk that allows you to boot up seperately from CD? if so maybe you could try a program that looks at the drive SMART stats?
Have a look at http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
Hope it helps.0 -
Fingers crossed for the format - sometimes there are bad indexes on the disc that can b*gger up an install. Formatting should remove this. NTFS rather than FAT as it is a lot more robust.0

the first partion didnt work.
ive formatted the second partion+im giving that a try,its starting to do my nut in,been at it for 4hrs now+wishing i had just paid the guy in shop to do it....0 -
Ive never known the install to just 'stall'
I cant think of any reason why it would (Save perhaps youve got something plugged in the USB ports it doesnt like)
Im still thinking the hardrives not right:idea:0 -
right thats it all sorted,im useing the laptop right now.
thanks to all for the help.
the only other problem is....the page does not cover the whole of the screen, theres about 2 inchs of black around both sides of the page.anyone know how to get the page full size?0
