Hi all! some advice need if youd be so kind!

I just had an out of the blue phone call from my ex from a few years ago. (we havent spoke inages)

Long story short we used to live together and we had sky in his name.

I tried to change the name on the account to mine, but they wouldnt even speak to me as i was not the account holder. The said that i would have to cancel the contract. I asked them to cancel it and they said i couldnt as i was not the account holder!

So i left it in his name ( money coming out of my account) for a few years. Eventually i realised i wasnt on the best package and wanted HD. I called them to change and again they wouldnt speak to me. I asked what on earth can i do! they said if it comes from my account then cancel the DD and they will cancel the contract automaticaly due to non payment.

So i did this, then set up a new sky account. The next month i got a bill from them. I had already paid that months on the new contract, and had not been recieving the old sky service for the month billed, so i called them, and they said as its not in my name i shouldnt bother with it.

Shortly after i recieved a letter from a debt collection agency, i phoned them and explained the situation, again they said as is not in my name then i shouldnt bother.

So now the debt collection agency have tracked him down and demanded the money from him! He called me at work asking what was happening!!

What do i do??

Also ive googled this, and it appears to be a common problem with sky. I just dont know what i should do, or if i should do anything! :o

  • The debt belongs to your ex not you. It's not your responsibility.Again if you call sky or the dca they won't be allowed to discuss it with you. It's your ex that needs to sort it and he can query it with them.it will not effect you.
