not received tax credits for 7 weeks

sorry this might be a long one so please bear with me.

i split from my partner in jan this year and informed hmrc they continued my payments until march then stopped them whilst they adjusted tha award to a single claim, they then sent ma an award notice to sign and return by 14th april which i did. then on the 30th april i checked my bank only to find that the tax credits havent been paid in, i rang hmrc and they said thay had received my signed declaration but the computer hadn't picked up on it, they put a note on the system sayng the declaration had been received and my claim had stopped incorrectly and she said it would be sorted in the next couple of weeks.

7 weeks later and umpteen phone calls later and i am still not receiving any tax credits, they say they are waiting for head office to restart the payments, but i have been told the same thing for the past 7 weeks!!! i currenlty have no money at all and am a single mum to 3 kids, i only work 16 hours per week so i dont bring home a huge wage.

is there anything i can do to speed up this process????

thanks

Use their complaints procedure to make a written complaint. Write to your MP. Contact Citizens' Advice for help if you are struggling eg to get a loan from the Social Fund.

I don't understand why when notified in January, they didn't stop your couple's claim then and start up your single claim? I thought they made the changes as and when notified. As it's gone on longer than that, you've obviously had to have this change occur during their busy renewal time.

thanks, i have emailed my mp, hopefully she will give them a kick up the a**

anxiousmum, i was wondering why it took them so long too but on the letter they sent it said the joint claim ended in jan and they have overpaid me by £2300 and when i got my single claim through they did backdate it to jan but only gave me £1600 but this was to cover jan to april and my payments were £280 per week (they only actually paid 3 before they stopped) so i dont understand how i owe them so much and they paid me £1600 surely the figures should have been about the same???. it then took them 4 weeks to start my single award so i was without money again but expecting it to be a lot quicker this time especially as they have admitted there was no reason for my claim to have ended.
