Colouring hair

Do you colour your own hair or have it done at the salon? Since I have been colouring my own hair it is saving me a fortune and my hair actually feels better.

Garnier is pretty good for hair dye. I have had my hair coloured in a salon for years. But I have switched to colouring at home and much prefer it. I like being in control of my hair these days.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Hi, thanks for your replies. It seems that more people are turning to home hair colouring. I went to the salon for years but now prefer doing it myself. I used to think it would never be the same but my hair seems in better condition and I get comments on how healthy it looks. I do feel more in control of it too as you say. I use Castings Crème Gloss, the root regrowth isn’t as noticeable as it was when I went to the salon aswell. The conditioner that comes with the hair colour is really nice and lasts me quite a while after I’ve coloured my hair.

The only issue I now have is with the trimming, as stated in a previous post. I am too wary of having too much cut off now by a hairdresser.

I do my own at home, as I've had really bad colours done at some salons. I just don't trust them now - and how do you try one out without risking months of hair disaster?!

I feel so much more in control, get the colour i like, and for a fraction of the price. (And I'll use whatever brand is on offer - can't say I've ever noticed any difference between them, in 10+ years!)

Having said that, I did risk some low lights at a local salon who is cheap - they don't normally mess up the cut, so i thought it was worth a gamble, and i could dye them out myself if it went wrong - turned out fine, so i might go back there again some time. But that's about once a year at most.

I do my own at home as well. Well, if we're going to be perfectly honest, DH does my hair at home. LOL But yes, it is so much cheaper, and I'm quite happy with the results. I think I normally use Nice & Easy as well, but try others here and there if on sale.

I have mine done at the salon but only because I couldn't create the "special effects" that I have at home.
  • Hi all,
This is a very interesting thread. I have regularly salon enhanced red hair, which is costing far too much. Does anyone recommend a home dye? I can't have it looking too wacky due to work but I do like a glossy vibrant red as opposed to auburn.

    Any ideas?

    TIA

Sorry to hijack but a while ago on this board someone recommended a hair colour thats non chemical and makes hair shiney, I believe they also said it covered grey, does anyone remember what the product was?
