Installing DVD Rewriter

Can anyone explain or point me to any web sites on how to install a DVD rewriter on my pc. I simply want to replace my CD RW with a DVD RW. Is this easy to do for an absolute novice? I have never even had the casing off my PC so I would be starting right at the beginning. I am on XP so would a new DVD simply plug in and play?
Thanks for any advice.

I done it myself at the first attempt !

You will need to open the PC case, make sure theres no static (Dell say to hold the power button on front of machine for 10 seconds). Pull out existing cables. Then squeeze the plastic 'runners' and pull out existing drive.
Unscrew 'runners' then screw to new drive.
Theres an important switch on back of drive, its to set the drive as a master or slave. But I can't remember what it should be set to.
Then basically put it all back in order it came out.

Windows should set up the new dvd drive for you.

I did it last year and it was frighteningly easy.
Bought a cheap DVD writer - took out my old CD writer - popped it in - no problem.
XP recognised it and then installed it.
And then I needed software to burn things - doh.
Use Nero now - great stuff but there are others
We all evolve - get on with it

Once I have opened my PC case I then hold the pc case with one hand and touch the nearest radiator, with the other hand, to earth any static.

Ive done this with a medion computer. Simply removed Cd writer (slave) and replaced with DVD writer (slave). Made lots of coasters!

Switched DVD reader and made the writer the master and it works fantastic.

Maybe something to try if you have any problems.

Tekheads sell a cheap OEM version of NERO too.

    Hope this helps.
