we have had a card for mackros for years... and only went there once or twice.....in the begining when we had the shop... but we still have our card....
so does anyone go there ... and what are the prices like compared to tescos and asda.....?
as from the 1st of september... i am up for the os grocery challenge.... which i have set myself of £50.00 a week...for my greedy bunch....... which will inlude sarnie for kids for school etc...so was thinking of getting some bulk buys from there.. if they do work out cheaper...

I've not been for a few months now, but to be honest I find a lot of their food prices are no better than the supermarkets.
Some of the best deals I have had have been on bulk packs of Kitchen and Toilet Rolls when they are on Special Offer.
You can see the current specials on their website, http://www.makro.co.ukLatest Wins: 08/06 Cinema Ticket
A big THANKYOU to everyone that posts comps!

Makro have reissued their cards so you now need a blue one. Also, they have now brought in a rule that you have to use it at least once every 12 weeks for it to remain valid.
Presumably has you appear to no longer have the shop, your card will have been stopped anyway through lack of use or the blue one is kicking around somewhere.0 -
thanks... guys.... we went there once or twice before.... as we had a shop... going back quite a few years ago.... and we felt then by the time you put the vat on some things.... it was cheaper to buy in the supermarket......and makkro suposed to be a supplier to smaller shops etc.....
but i still hear people raving on about the place.... but i must admit its non-food items that they talk about.....
maybe its just a gimic the card thing just to get general public etc to buy in bulk...
philb.... how much do the loo rolls work out.. ? and what size pack etc....as at the mo.. on the old style money section.. we have a thread going about loo rolls... on how to save money etc.... its quite funny really.... and sad i know.. but every penny counts.... excuse the punWork to live= not live to work0 -
I use Makro on a regular basis only for the Washing Powder, Loo Roll and Comfort they always have offers on and it works out cheaper for me.
Will also buy wine or larger when it's on offer.:xmassmile Looking forward to December:xmassmile0 -
I find their food more expensive in most cases.
Its really good for electrical stuff and sweats for the kids at xmas.
I just look in the little offer sheets they send out to see if there are any good deals0 -

As someone who seems to know what he/she's talking about, would you know if there is any way to get a card easily?
Having gone to a link from this thread, they are asking for 2 trade transactions and company cheque books etc, of which I have none. I am a plain money saver who is neither a trader nor self employed presently, so is it possible to by-pass the system easily without searching out a friend's aunty who has a corner shop down the Mumbles, asking her for a company card?!
I agree that when I used to go there some years ago, there were not savings across the range, but often there were selected items that presented excellent bargains.stixman70
