Debit card transaction - can it be traced?

I've been checking my bank account and have found a payment for over £100 which I don't recognise ( a debit card payment made on line).
I can't remember making this, I can't trace it on my computer, and have asked the bank to trace it for me. They tell me they can't, without putting the transcatiion "into dispute" and cancelling my card.
Is this right? Surely it must be easy to trace who the payment was made to?
Thanks in advance

What is the description, someone here might know who the retailer is.0

if you view your statement online then it should display who the merchant for the transaction was.0

Thanks
The description is on the bank statement is
A7N MEDIA-S1
which I can't fathom. The bank can't either, apparently.
I don't have a facility to voiew online as the account is totally paper based.0 -

Thanks - and SNAP. I did a search when it first came up and couldn't come up with anything either.0

the merchant's location should also be provided, if it's a bricks and mortar shop it will be the location, if it's a webshop it will be a phone number... it may or may not be on your statement but your bank will definitely have it0

They are correct about disputing the transaction.
They don't need to cancel the card, but I would suggest that it's good practice to do so if you are suggesting that a fraudulent transaction has occurred.
The last time I disputed a transaction with my bank (LTSB) they weren't able to return the money immediately, but they did increase my overdraft to the value of the transaction so that I wouldn't lose out financially.0 -
Call Action Fraud or click onto their website. They've a Free Phone number and you should be able to get advice there.
Personally I'd dispute it. I'd rather look a fool than loose a 100 quid.0 -

Too right - £100 is worth a lot of chasing about, and I'm not going to let it go.
Have asked the bank to put it into "dispute" - so somewhere along the line I should get to know who the payment was to.
Bit worrying though, as I have a bank card check on this account (Lloyds TSB Clicksafe). Somethings gone wrong somewhere..0
