Bike gearing explained !

Options
Can anybody explain this to me.
Currently have FSA Compct 50/34, with 8 speed rear 26/12. Ok at home but off to the Alps this summer. last year copied alright on a triple. So best option might be to change rear cassette. On the internet Shimano HG 50 8 speed, seem to sgo 11-32, 11-30, or even 11-34 !, Which would give me the equivalent of the triple ??
Thanks

Your triple was probably a 28 or 30t in the small ring anyway. I'm guessing from the fact you have a compact, it's a road bike. So a normal double will have 50/39 or 52/40 and a triple will have 50/39/30 or some such.
Not that much difference, do some extra training and you won't notice ;)

But as the above says, get over to bike radar :rotfl:
  • And I thought bikes were simple things!!
  • None will give you the equivalent of a triple as you will always be missing roughly 2 speeds. Depending on what riding you're doing I'd sugest putting a triple back on. I've ridden there on road, downhill and all mountain bikes and had to change setups on each. It's a small cost that could make or break your holiday when put into perspective.
