Cost of Painting.. Help Please!!

Hi,
We have just bought our first flat and there are 3 rooms in there, which have wallpaper on right now. We would like the wall paper to be stripped off and then the wall, painted on.
Could you please give me an idea of how much its going to cost and how long it will take to do if we hire a painter/decorator to do the job for us.
And is the job fairly straightforward for us to take on ourselves?
