Volkswagon Golf or Vauxhall Corsa?

The Golf is a classless car whereas the Corsa is a bullet heads chav wagon.
Go for a Golf, even if you dont buy the one your looking at. Autoquake often has late model Golfs in its stock list.
I wouldnt buy the 1.4 though. I think you should be looking for the 1600 Fsi in the petrol line up.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
1.4 golf will be sluggish as hell given the weight of it, especially with more than one person in it.
If you like the VW badge what about a Polo? I got a 4 year old 1.9TDI Polo in 2006 with 32k on the clock for about £6500 - it's a brilliant little car and now has 112k on the clock! 60 to the gallon on a good run too - easily 50+mpg day to day. They're much cheaper than the equivalent golf but they are just as good - and it doesn't seem like space is an issue with you since you are shortlisting a Corsa too.
Just a thought...0 -
Since when was a 5 year old rep spec hatchback exciting ?
Its a shame all you can take from my post is one sentence and misquote it and overlook the whole idea of what I was saying. A poverty spec Golf is not particularly exciting. If you read what I said, I did urge the guy to buy the highest trim level he could afford.
However, IMHO, if you have to compare just those two cars mentioned by the OP, the golf is slightly more exciting to own than the corsa.0 -

Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

Not wishing to just take one sentance and misquote you...but a Golf is not only slightly more exciting than a Corsa???
That sounds like a statement, but with your question marks added at the end, I'm not sure.
Well I agree that a Golf is more exciting than the equivalent Corsa, and I would hazard a guess the majority of car owners would agree. By how much is another story, but I think about *this much* (I'm holding my hands apart to illustrate how much).0 -
Get a TDi Golf or Polo. They are bolted together more thorougly than the Corsa. A 1.4 Golf though will struggle to move.Happy chappy0

Look for a 1.6 Golf - rather than the 1.4.0
