I think the gravel will go through the gaps - you may be better with a more solid edge.

Not really ideal. You'd have gravel escaping all the time and soon get fed up of having to tidy the borders! If it was me i'd definitely choose something with a solid edge.

You could get something like this http://www.gardensupplydirect.co.uk/lawn_border_and_edging/lawn_edge_green_9m_x_165mm/11453_p.html but a lot cheaper in somewhere like B&M (1.99) for the same length, then put the little fence in to make it look nice.

We have a gravelled section at the back of our garden edged with lawn. Before I put the gravel down I put a plank of wood down (about an inch thick) to divide the grass and gravel section - staked at 1 mtr intervals. I hardcored the gravel section then put the gravel down an inch or so below the wood edge. I can mow over the edging without throwing the gravel all over the place. The edging has proved invaluable as it keeps the grass in a neat straight line without me having to do anything with it other than the odd strim.

I would imagine this one would be more suitable, slightly cheaper than the one you picked too.

  • Definitely not, trust me I have found out from experience, impossible to keep the gravel from infiltrating the borders, get a solid one definitely. Luckily mine were only a quid per section from er, poundland :D as I will have to replace them for a neater look.
Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!
