Moving in to First House 30th June when to contact suppliers?

Hi
As said in the thread title I move into my first house on 30th June.
When should I ring the Gas & Electric suppliers to inform them that I am taking over the property?
Just want to be on the ball as much as I can due to the stressful nature of moving house etc.
Many Thanks
Jonathan

First you need to find out who they are. You should start to do that now. For the first 28 days in the new place, you will be on a 'deemed contract' with the supplier of the current occupier.
As soon as you move in, go round all of the meters [gas water electricity] and take a note of the readings. Keep a note of them and guard it carefully - it could be useful later. Phone the new supplier and tell them you have taken over the supply and give them the readings. Don't forget to do the same at the old place! Keep these readings too!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Dvardyshadow is bob on here, only thing I would do is ask the vendors the name of their current suppliers and phone them and tell them and set up the account. Then phone on the day you move in or asap with meter readings quoting your reference from your earlier call.
Hope this helps
Good luck0 -

They'll want you to contact them when you move in (or otherwise become legally responsible for the property.)
That is when they'll want start readings and set up an account in your name."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Just as an extra bit of info..
If you want to change supplier you will have to move in and take over the supply from the previous owners, then apply to the new company to switch which takes a few weeks.
If you can, check what sort of meters are in the house. For example if they are prepayment then you can't switch to one of the credit tariffs until the meters are swapped, which takes time and some companies charge to do it.0 -
you should'nt have to pay to get a pre payment meter changed as long as you allow the company to do a credit check on you and its ok0

Try telling that to the energy companies that regularly charge £50+ for changing the prepay meters over even if they have done credit checks...Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Agreed. Scottish Power were going to charge me £250 to take out a gas and electricity for a pre-pay meter. When we asked if they could do a credit check, they said they had never heard of such a procedure!
Luckily nice Scottish Hydro did it all for free0
