That processor dates from 2005 and is extremly old and slow by today's standards, plus demand for old dated desktops isn't good at the best of times.

On ebay I can 'buy it now' a similar spec machine with 19" monitor for £130 (powerseller/refurbished and 'guranteed'). tbh I think you'd be very lucky to get near that buts it is slightly higher spec than the £30 no screen ones...

I'd put it in the £60-90 range if sold as a complete machine, however you could possibly get a bit more if you break it up and sell off individual components....
  • thanks jas , was thinking about £100 as a private sale so will go at that or near offer

    cheers

Did you remove the original 1GB RAM module? Don't think anyone would be too happy with 256MB RAM.
  • not removed anything from it and it was only bought from dell less than 2 years ago. is something amiss here ? has had a full re install from disc recently ..................

  • to be honest it is slower than my laptop but not really sluggish.

    thanks for the info

    £80 it is then .......................

Apparently not, it seems that 256 MB RAM was indeed the minimum spec supplied. Wouldn't run very well with such little memory. Maybe you noticed that. Put some more RAM in and you might actually want to keep it. :)

The original RAM is shown as 512 MB by Crucial, so it seems a bit surprising that you only have 192 MB visible. 64 MB less than 512 MB I wouldn't be surprised at.

As Donnie says, why not just add some more memory - Crucial shows 1 GB at just over £22. Won't make the CPU any faster, but you'll virtually eliminate paging to hard disk!

Base configuration is 256 MB. Additionally, it's probably PC2-4200 inside. Don't rely on Crucial. Suprised he says it isn't sluggish with 192MB RAM. :D

I can quite believe that it only has 256 MB of RAM, but I've usually found that Crucial are pretty reliable. Anyway, it doesn't matter since the OP seems to want to sell it. No need to suggest the running of CPU-Z, Belarc Advisor, SIW, etc, to find our what's really in there...!

(I also think the "not sluggish" comment must have had an intrusive "not"!)

    I repaired a c521 recently.

One of the sticks of RAM became faulty and the machine wouldn't even start.

If there are two sticks in the machine make sure they are both seated properly. If they are try taking one out and see if it makes any difference.
