paid with debit am i covered?

Hi, my partner brought some work shoes from uksafetyfootwear.co.uk at the start of last week, we paid with a debit card, and the verified by visa page came up. (I also did a google search to make sure no dodgy reviews but found nothing so thought all was kosher).

By friday afternoon still no parcel so i emailed them but noticed it said onl manned weekdays. This morning getting more worried tried the number but permentantly engaged. Done some digging found out they are part of igtc ltd company which own several safetywear online shops all which come up in top 5 web searchs, the company i brought from being the top one. Anyway i googled a couple of times to find company info, not on main site but managed to track it down from a old catched site, webcheck at companies house last report was Sept 09 saying struck off and disolved.

So now really annoyed that i didnt do this beforehand, im not silly on the net and do search etc beforehand so am really annoyed at myself.

To top it off we paid with debit not credit card, what rights do we have, will verified by visa page make a difference? Also am annoyed that all the pages are still up nearly a year on all taking money, (through paypal as well) all verified by visa, all not marked as a bad company from websearches, can i do anything about this to get it changed?

thanks in advance

The number again doesnt work as i phoned to ask for a refund and ask why they were still trading if a dissolved company!!!! This has now actually made me angry as there was a hope in me that thought its a company fell onto hard times was disolved but never took sites down etc, but this email proves it is just a malicious lie and that they are fobbing me off while taking my money with no intention of sending me a product.

Surely they are breaking the law if they are trading while dissolved?

The company itself my be 'dissolved' but an individual can keep on trading under the same name.

  • hubby just called barclays and they are saying that we have to wait 30 days as the company has not been liquadised but dissolved?! Is this correct, we apparently then haveto do some forms provide evidence but they said they cannot guarentee it will be honoured!

My understanding of it is you're not covered for purchases by debit cards, only credit cards,so it's unlikely you'll get any money back (Martin was on Watchdog the other week explaining this)
The Verified by Visa thing is just a security check to ensure that you.as the customer, are legit & not going to rip off the merchant.
