Putting Strimming Wire Onto a Reel.

I am trying to find out the correct way to thread strimming wire onto the reel so that when the reel is loosened all that needs to be done is to pull the strimming wire at each end to lengthen it.

At present due to me not having the wire threaded correctly onto the reel I need to take the head entirely off the reel and manually extend the strimming wire.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

  • start from scratch, take it all off & start again:
1)loop it round the reel, tie a small knot to keep in place, trial & error as to getting it pointing the right way for step 2
2)wrap line around reel in the same direction as it turns when cutting (mine is clockwise)
nb)dont overfill, and dont be tempted to use line too thick
    Hope this helps

My strimmer doesn't extend the line automatically. I have to push down the cartridge on a hard surface whilst running the strimmer. I suppose it's a safety feature...it would be awfully easy for the centrifugal force to unravel all the line. But I'm sure you already know that.

I had to have mine apart because of a snapped line this weekend, and iirc, the line was wound in the opposite direction to the way the holder screwed in.

I have to admit this is a skill I have never mastered.
I tend to try for about 30 minutes throw the thing at the wall in frustration and head offf to B&Q to buy a new one.
    Good luck to you.

Try one with twin lines, Measure 26ft and feed half through the centre hole then wind the 2 lines
in the same direction making sure they sit in the correct channel and do not overlap of become loose.

Have you tried untangling 13ft of messy strimming wire?

Nearly as bad as the 200m of blue rope i bought & took the plastic straps off, The centre then fell out
oh dear. Still trying to untangle that one.
