I currently have this laptop http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Sony_VAIO_FX301_PCG_FX301 but am finding it a bit too restrictive. I don't need it for much but use the internet a lot, store photos and a bit of music, have quite a few peripherals (printer, CDRW, scanner, bluetooth etc) but am up to my hard drive's limit. I've looked into a few replacements but really have no idea what would be best to upgrade to, are any of these any good? http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1734089741.1156793938@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccefaddijkgdhhkcflgceggdhhmdgml.0&category_oid=-27751&selectValues=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C7&filterArray=0%2C1%2C2%2C3%2C4%2C5%2C6%2C7%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1%2C-1&direction=DOWN&product0=919877&product1=234219&product2=584684&product3=305220&page=Comparison&number=4&fm=1&sm=1&tm=undefined Or can you recommend something? Thanks in advance from a completely computer iliterate girl!

You could always have a cleanout https://www.ccleaner.com, and either buy an external usb hard disk, or a new internal one.. cheaper than buying a new laptop.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I think you would be best off saving a bit more or waiting for a bargain that has a full pentium or turion processor - you will notice a huge difference.0

Thanks for the advice, Albertross and Blacksheep, but I should have added that I going to pass my old laptop onto my parents, so really do want to get a new one. My mind just shutsdown when I look at specifications etc and I don't know if what I'm looking at is better than what I've got! I don't want to get it home to find out it's actually no better than my Sony. :mad:0

Basically just steer clear of celerons and even semprons as they will be alot slower and sluggish than other processors. Also try make sure that the laptop has at least 512mb ram.
Those are the two main points that you will want to look for and don't let yourself get bullied or confused by the salespeople - they don't even know what they are on about half the time. If they say oh so and so is better as it has xyz ask why its better and how that makes the computer faster etc - keep asking why until they explain it in non jargon terms and if they can't just simply say you don't know what you're on about do you and walk away.0
