Get it done no question :money:

Hinza, all the cambelt kits I have bought have come with a sticker to apply to the cam cover detailing change dates, not that painting it on isn't a good idea. I supose stickers can come off.

There are very few engines that aren't "interference fit" nowadays.
The ones that get away with a broken belt are usually the ones that go on start up, which is suprisingly common. ;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Absolutely get it done. I just had the belt go on my Scenic (2002 - 88K miles) and it cost £795 to correct.

Knew I should have spent the money to get the belt done sooner

Just been quoted £88 (+vat) labour plus whatever the parts cost- about £200 all in, which tallies with what everyone is saying on here.

He did ask me though if it's just the belt or the whole kit I wanted fitting though. In light of what people are saying on here I'm assuming whole kit+ water pump.

Just to say , and as this is a "money saving site "

As far as water pump is concerend :

If its camblet driven, its a must to be changed

If its not cambelt driven then have it inspected at the time of the cambelt change, as its not so much of a "must do" than a cambelt driven water pump !!

As others have said - I would not put off getting the cambelt replaced - it can be very expensive if it goes.

Get a few quotes over the phone - local garages and online companies should give you decent quotes.

Another option would be to take out a warranty on your car to protect unexpected bills. I received some e-mails re Warranty Direct who seem to have some decent cover - although you'd need to check it covers cambelts and the likes for your car. Sometimes easier to spread the cost rather than take the big hits at once.

Good, but don't even think about buying them yourself.

Let the garage get them (and add their %) so you get easy comeback if it goes wrong in the future

depends on what you would call modern but on the older vw engines they had a water pump that ran off an auxiliary belt from the crankshaft. that engine has been superseded now though.
it was fitted to mark 3 golfs and the most recent i can find that uses it is the vw caddy up to 04.
