Product Life Expectancy: How Long Should an Appliance Last?

Does anyone know of a web-site or source to find the length of time that it is reasonable to expect different types of products and appliances to last, please?
I am trying to find an independent opinion/survey on what the life expectancy of a fridge-freezer is? One web-site suggested Which had produced a report on the average life expectancy of various products, but I am unable to find any reference to it on their web-site.
Section 14 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 implies a term into a contract of sale that goods are of "satisfactory quality" and that in determining this, durability is a factor to be considered.
The reason for asking is that I am in dispute with Comet about a Prestige fridge-freezer that has broken down after just two years and is a write-off, being uneconomical to repair (gas leak).
Thanks for any help, advice and suggestions.

Depends on what you paid and the brand, Prestige is Comets/Laskys own budget brand0

How long is the that piece of string.
I would however, expect most fridge freezers to last a lot longer than 2 years, 4-5 year more like.0 -
My old Kelvinator fridge/freezer lasted at least 20 yrs and was still going when I gave it away. However was informed by delivery driver of new f/f I'd be lucky if it lasted 5 yrs.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Thanks to deanos, neilmcl and lincroft1710 for their replies.
I appreciate that every individual probably has a different opinion on how long a particular product should be expected to last based on price, make and their own personal experience and expectations. What I am trying to find (if it exists) is a source or authority that can be accepted by everyone as being reasonable (the word quoted in the 1979 Sale of Goods Act), perhaps a trade association, but an organisation or body that can be regarded as being reasonably accurate, hence my referral to Which.
Thanks again

A district judge.
Nobody else gives a time as its exactly like asking how long is a piece of string. Only a judge will be able to give a decisive legal opinion.
Tell us the price and we could give you a rough idea but thats all you will get off anybody out of court.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
i bought a lg hd tv from comet 3years ago cost £800 guess what it broke down as i have extended warranty on it i phoned comet last friday engineer came out today looked at tv and said motherboard.power supply and screen were faulty .so as he cant sort it he has to arrange for tv to go to workshop to be looked at to see if worth reparing . cant pick it up till next monday and said should take 7 to 10 days to repair or replace (fingers crossed) question is if replacing tv what value of tv will i get the model i bought is no longer avaiable0

Only small claims court can decide this, what is reasonable time depends on opinion but loosely on type of product and what you paid for it.
Example Cheap none brand tv 40" LCD say £350 (5 years) Branded tv 40" LCD £700 (8 years) of course thats only my opinion0
