Cancelling a Holiday for September

Dear all

My GF booked a holiday for us in May to go to America with Co-op travel in mid-September, as a omen on Saturday she paid off the rest of the holiday and today we broke up.

She has now stated she wants the full £3,300 from me. Does anyone know if I can cancel the holiday and get a refund I would be happy to lose the deposit if I can just get back the rest of the balances.

I haven't done anything like this before so was planning on gonna see the holiday company tomorrow morning.

Are there any rights ?

Cheers for reading.

Rob

You can't cancel the holiday. It was your girlfriend who bought and paid for it. She'll have to do it. Check the T&C's to see how much you'll be able to get back

you should be able to get anything but the deposit back (thats what the deposit is for afterall) failing that it might be worth you trying to sell on the holiday as you can change the names on the booking. Good luck and sorry about your girlfriend xx

The OP didn't book the holiday though, his girlfriend did so OP can't get anything back at all unless girlfriend sorts it out.

The OP's girlfriend is demanding £3,300 from him, it looks like the OP hasn't paid anything yet to his ex-GF. The ex-GF cannot expect the OP to re-imburse her for the entire cost of the holiday, 50% is her responsiblity, and she would certainly stand no chance in any court of makimg him pay it.

So on Saturday she was sure enough about your relationship to pay off the rest of the holiday, by Sunday it's so all irretriveably over that there's no way you could patch things up enough to go on hols?

You've either been one hell of a bad boy or she's a bit of a psycho.

As said above, only the lead name (your ex) can change or cancel the booking, but why does she think you should pay for your half and her half too?

Could she not change your name on the booking and take a friend instead?

If she cancels she will only lose the deposit. If she has paid the whole amount with a view to you reimbursing her half of it you need to tell her right now that you will not be doing so.

Most companies request the balance to be paid in full 10 weeks before departure date so they will refund all less your deposit if it's cancelled now.

Do remind her that she is the lead name and if she doesn't cancel it now she will lose all her money and she won't be getting it back from you.

Many thanks for the reply, I haven't been a bad boyfriend - but a little tip for you all, WINDOWS 7 remembers passwords. It remembered my girlfriends facebook one so when I logged onto my laptop I saw something I didn't like.

Life is too short - we have managed to cancel the holiday just awaiting the cost from the operators they said we may lose the deposit, I am ok with this worst case.

Her thoughts were if I can't go with you then I am not going so you owe me £3,300 - twisted logic I agree and hopefully I am now free from.

Thanks all for the replies first time I have used this forum.
