sole trader accounts software package

I've just registered as self employed as i'm a freelance outdoor instructor. I'm looking for a software package to manage my accounts, doesn't need to be complicated as i'm a sole trader so have no need for payroll etc. just basic income and VAT stuff. I'm not all that happy with the idea of an online system as I don't want all my details online.

You can also get a cut down version of Quick Books free as well from the Intuit UK website.0

I used Sage Instant Accounting a few years ago when I was self-employed. Very good but with a bit of a learning curve if you're not familiar with double-entry book-keeping. I had it because it came foc with a computer I bought. PLUS point - most Accountants are familiar with Sage and I could just give mine a backup CD. BIG MINUS point - Sage upgrade regularly and you lose support if you don't upgrade, so it gets expensive.0

excell spread sheets does it all0

Another recommendation for Excel - I've been using it for 5 years now (using an Excel cashbook that my accountant sent me) and it does the job superbly. Works out my VAT returns automatically and I just send it to my accountant at the end of the year for him to work out my self assessment.0
