I have family living/working in Gibralter and we want to go and visit this Summer but my husband won't fly I know we could go by train and I also know lots of cruise ships call in at Gibralter on the way to the Med , would it be possible to sail to Gibralter? I have looked and found lots of cruises but don't know wether we could book just to go to Gib and back, does anyone know if its possible? thanks hopefully...:o

That's a very expensive way of doing it!
afaik there are no ferries to Gibraltar... when we were there the ferries were running from up the coast in Spain across to Morocco...
My b-i-l is Gibraltarian and my nephew hates to fly, so they have travelled down through France and Spain in the Eurostar and TGV trains. Much quicker than the rail network we have here, obviously if you can book further ahead you'll get a better deal too.;):money:
there's a ferry to Santander from Plymouth... then train across the country and down to Gib?

Have you thought about visiting your GP to get medicinal help for your DH?
eta, did you know Easyjet now fly to Gibralatar (as well as Monarch and BA, iirc)
it would probably be cheaper for any other family to fly there and just the two of you go the long way round.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

You should be able to book on a cruise ship for just the UK -GIB leg and back. It won't be a standard offering bookable on line - you will have to contact the cruise company direct or go though a specialist travel agent. Worth considering nearby ports (?Malaga?) as well
And it won't be cheap - but it's doable, I'm pretty sure.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions, I just think the whole train thing is too much faffing about when I could just go to Heathrow (10mins away) get on the flight and be there quickly, so simple but OH is never going to fly we have been down that route for 20yrs and its never going to happen but he is 60 this year and I just thought it would be nice if we could both go visit with son and fiancee but don't think I can really be bothered with the train route.. then thought a short cruise would be great.. I will find out about that thanks for the tips.. if its very expensive I shall give OH the option of having the cruise as his birthday present... (instead of a new set of bowls?) I have a feeling the bowls might win and I can book my flight direct to Gib...... LOL#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Another problem doing this;
A cruise ship won't stop at Gib twice on the same cruise, you will have to use two cruises - possibly even two different cruise lines.0 -

My parents had an apartment in Duquesa about 20 mins from Gib. In all the years they went Dad refused to fly and would go by train varying his route each year. He used to leave on a Thursday on the same train as my mum who would get off at Cambridge for a couple of days with her sister. He would then carry on by train and arrive in time to meet her flight in Gib on the Saturday. They would do the same on the return leg! Worked for them
