To switch off or not to switch....

.....that is my question? I have just moved into the 21st Century by installing a wireless connection today - really chuffed that I managed. However, and I hang my head in shame here - should I shut down the router when I turn off my PC at bedtime? :o

Many thanks in advance.

  • Yes you can (although the company selling it will advise otherwise). Just a waste of money leaving it on.

It really depends on whether you get a decent sync when you turn it back on in the morning....

e.g. you wil sync to the exchange best if you reboot your router sometime around the middle of the day-ish, rather than in the evening or early morning. So, it really depends on how much your speed will vary by swithching on & off and if you can live with that variation.

    - apart from wasting a tiny bit of leccy, there is no difference.

    - important though is, if your Modem is also left on, your Router should be protected from unwanted attention.

Just don't forget to switch off the Security alarms, TV, DVD, Sky box, video recorder, Mobile, Fridge / Freezer, Fire / smoke detectors, PC,s monitors and printers, cordless phones, answering machine, fax machine, kettle, iron, hair straighteners, oven, toaster, electric blanket, hot water heater, lights, open flames from gas fires and candles too - oh so much to do I think I would just leave it on.
