Just a little question on timing - holiday booking

Hello there moneysaving friends, Just wanted to ask your views on a little issue of timing.
After much thought ( and persuasion :P) my OH has agreed that we can spend christmas and new year in the sun :j
I have been looking around and see that things are much more expensive than last time we did this...but I want some proper sunshine so will probably be looking at Tenerife or similar....
question is whether to book now or later.....I am concerned that if I book now the operator may have gone bust in the 6 months to christmas....but if I try to hold my nerve will I then find the places left are so limited that I can't afford to go....
and then there's that blooming volcano and its ash.....
Any views would be appreciated.....:)

Hi,
Depends where you're going and are you doing a package holiday. Tenerife has started to get a bit quieter in the last few years.
I've been doing Tenerife for the last 7 years at Christmas and New Year but we book flights and accomodation independantly.
We usually book our flights in May as soon as they are available (Ryanair) and we book our accomodation at the same time.
Not sure if it's different for a package holiday and you can wait a bit longer.
