Thanks to sloopychops in pointing me in the right direction....:T :A :T
Right here goes:-
www.ratestogo.com                 I think owned by Flairview Travel.
My friend know's that I am a keen Mse'er and asked me for some advise & help.... god I got so angry and so did he.....
My friend wanted to surprise his wife by taking her down to london last weekend so borrowed my computer and booked a room at Hotel 82 in London.
He went through ratestogo and got a great deal.......or so he thought......
He got and printed the invoice and paid a deposit & booking fee by visa, and was told to pay the rest to hotel on arrival.
He booked the train down and everything was ok...tried to ring the hotel a few times but line was engaged and so he thought as everything looked good it must be..... how wrong he was.......   .
Not only did the train ws delayed and it took them 6 hours to get down to London from Leeds BUT.....
When they got to the hotel....not only did they not have their reservation details but the price quoted online was wrong and not accepted by the Hotel....
They argued and argued but to no avail.... the hotel said that the rates had been changed on purpose by ratesto go and this has happened to alot more people.......
My friend then had to pay a reduced price of 80 pounds for 1 night as they could not face trying to find a new hotel at that time and as they were so tired.
So who is to blame?
As ratetogo.com had accepted a booking as agents and taken money - have they broken a contract?
How can my friend be compensated?
Does he need to go to the small claims court etc?
PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS!!!!!!!!
& CAVEAT EMPTOR -let the buyer beware.
can anybody (any MSE legal eagle's ) help?
TIA from me and my Friend (who is still        )

Use your judgement, and above all, be honest with yourself.

What is a person to do to get a good deal?Use your judgement, and above all, be honest with yourself.I walk with the world & the world walks with me!I don't make bad choices!!! Other people just fail to see my GENIUS !!!!0

i would suggest that you contact the hotel again and get them to take action against "rates to go"...i actually can't see the scenario but whatever is going on is obviously illegal and the hotel seems happy enough to go long with it.
what happened to his deposit ? does the hotel receive any money form the deposit?0 -

they say no that they don't get the deposit.... reception refused to tell him if they are willing to take any action .... as 'manager wasn't there'
Small Claims court? if so against who?Use your judgement, and above all, be honest with yourself.I walk with the world & the world walks with me!I don't make bad choices!!! Other people just fail to see my GENIUS !!!!0 -
Strikes me as straight forward. Your friend's contract is with ratestogo. If they break that contract, then they should compensate you. I would first write to r2g, stating what it is you want. For example, a full refund and a refund on the train tickets would be a start. If that goes nowhwere, write to them again and tell them they have 7 days to address the issue, or that you will take them to small claims and be looking to re-claim court fee, interest, and any other expenses. If they don't respond, take 'em to court. That, at least, is what I would do, but I'm not legal expert.
