2 virgin modems in 1 house, possible?

I currently have my pc set up in my main bedroom. This is where I have my internet connection and my second tv connection.

In my living room is where i have my first tv connection, this is also where i have my nintendo wii, xbox 360, bluray player etc. Because of the layout of my house, a wireless internet connection is a bit of a pain and i cant really connect them via cables, so i was wondering is it possible to set up a second virgin modem in my living room and use a router at the back of my tv to connect the bluray, xbox and wii to the internet, and still use my original modem in the bedroom purely for use with my pc?

You can only use 1 modem at a time on a single phone line.

What do you mean by 'TV connection'? You can only have one cable modem per incoming feed (or one ADSL modem per phone line).

Have a look at using power line adaptors to use your mains cables to distribute the network.

but where she has the wii and xbox 360 she will have to either swap the ethernet between the 2 devices or could they not get soemthing which would allow both to be connected at the same

In order to have two SACM (Stand Alone Cable Modem) in the same home, you would have to take out a second account,ie subscription, as it's only possibe to have one per account, you can have more than one modem per home.

The current Isolators in use (the white box on the wall that your TV/Modem connects to) have two outputs which have a dual TV/Data function. If it's an older single output one, then a normal two-way CoAx splitter would be fitted after the Isolator.

  • Why can't two modems be used, is it due to only paying for 1 internet subscription? So its like having to pay for an addtional set top box when you want to use it another room ?(we currently do have this set up)

We have 2 seperate isolators, 1 in the bedroom, 1 in the lounge. Why can't a modem be on each then?

Because the Customer SMS is only designed to recognise one SACM whereas it can recognise more than one STB per home, also stops you giving 'free' braodband access to your mum down the street for instance.
What about useing one of these:

NTL/VM were going to trial them when I worked for them but I dont know is anything came from it.

Use powerline to extend the ethernet from the bedroom to the lounge, use a hub to provide additional ethernet ports off the powerline.

There is no such technical limit, DOCSIS is a shared media standard like Wi-Fi or Ethernet over Coaxial cable.

Virgin Media's policy is another matter.
