I need a powerful laptop that isn't 7" thick and made of plastic

Options
I was looking in the usual shops for a new laptop as I need something with a bit of power to replace my Mac Pro desktop as I need to be more mobile.

Macbook Pro perhaps - Sure but I use windows about 75% of the time now so wondered about getting a good windows laptop.

I'm prepared to spend upto about £1000 on it as I need to run some demanding applications and need as much RAM as I can get my hands on.

However I was shocked at the pathetic offerings - all made of cheap plastic (I ride a bike to work and would like a strong build quality), a shell as thick as a the bread on a pub lunch ploughmans and just overall "cheap" feeling to them.

So I looked at the Macbooks and they're much slimmer, much more attractive, powerful - just a few hundred more than I'm prepared to spend.

Are there any decent options out there for quality metal shell, powerful spec and decent price?

Maybe I should just go with a mac.

my work uses ruggerdised laptops designed for outside use made of metal and rubber but then costs about £2000 a piece old saying you pay for what you get. other option is going to be buy a good case unless you need to work where it might get damaged or drop it. but most people don't

maybe something like this for a 15" but you havent said what size screen you need either

You could get buy yourself a Macbook Pro and a copy of Windows 7 and use the Mac OS Bootcamp feature to dual boot so having the best of both worlds

^ yes i do that at the moment!

The Lenovos look nice, but I think it's going to have to be a macbook since it's just that 20-25% of the time i need something like Final Cut etc so it'll have to be a MBP.

    thanks all.

HP Envy but they're expensive. Dell have some pro stuff too not just cheap plastic stuff. MacBook Pro does make an excellent Windows 7 PC though.

Dell Latitude - I use an E6400. Aluminium case, ok, it's a bit monolithic but it feels solid and has survived 6 months of bike-commuting thus far.
