The problem with this company (it's all the same company I believe) is that it's not a permenent solution.

I bought £5 to start off and got a free phone number. I never used the credit up until they started the 180 day timeout, so I then bought £10 (forced), and then never used that. I ended up giving away the credit to friends ( I nearly gave it away on here!).

Now they're up as a different company and it'll probably be the same sort of thing eventually. Still, it's good in the mean-time, especially if you have a 3G data contract & bluetooth 3G phone (wonder if that's economical?).

What would be really good would be a 3G phone with a VoIP app to use with http://www.freecall.com/en/sip.html ! They will probably block this in time http://insight.zdnet.co.uk/communications/3ggprs/0,39020421,39210642,00.htm

The trick if to find a Windows Mobile that does 3G and WIFI, that should cover all bases. I'm researching that, though the depreciation of the phone could put a damper on the idea....
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker

Different domains offer different rates etc.

  • What is wierd is that I can phone China (incl mobile) for 0.5ppm as opposed to a UK landline @ 1ppm.

I don't think there are ANY free calls at the moment, even though the web site strongly implies otherwise.

    Rant time.

Time for a compaint. But to who? ASA, Trading Standards, Dept of Trade, OFCOM? ALL a waste of space. VoipCheap never acknowledge any emails. They are off shore. Nobody wants to know. I have even emailed Martin & he cocks a deaf'un as well! Yet he still promotes them. VC know they can get away with it so they do!

We pay a fortune every year for hundreds of useless expensive QUANGOS - jobs for the boys. The government, that costs us an even greater fortune, writes a continuous stream of unenforcable / unenforced law. Yet every time there is a real world day2day issue that should be promptly addressed, it is not within the remit of anybody in authority. The only likely response is - would you like to pay for another QUANGO?

ralph, all telecoms rates are subject to change. This company may be disappointing people with its practices, but they don't appear to be illegal, so would not be subject to intervention by any of those bodies.
  • I have only justgot this Voip stuff working, but am getting FREE calls to UK 01/02 numbers and New Zealand still. I've noy addedany credit yet to either FreeCall.com or VoipCheap.com but both detail my calls as FREE.
