SONY KV32FX68 ... no picture ... 4 standby light blinks and off... help???

Hi folks,
My brothers' TV is Kaputt I think. As of last night his TV (SONY KV32FX68) seemed to have died. Now all that happens when he turns on the telly is no picture (not even the onscreen green text/osd) then the standby LED blinks 4x and then turns itself off.
In the manual it says 4x blinks -> call out service engineer. So who are the best at fixing Sony TVs??? The SONY guys themselves??? are they expensive??? Will they charge much for callout? Will this problem cost much to sort out???? I said to my brother if it is going to cost over 300quid I would not bother and put the money towards a flat panel tv. 200-300quid think about it and under 200 get it fixed. Oh and yes it is out of warranty.

4 blinks on that model is usually a short in a transistor in the line output circuit so should not cost that much to repair. if you go to sony they will prob charge an arm and a leg. i'd try a local indeopendant engineer many of which will give you a free quote if you take it in to the workshop. many will advertise free callout and quote but this is usually only free when you accept the quote
the actual fault is no vertical sync0
