ASDA Dilemma for friend

Hi all,

This is for my friend who is having a problem with ASDA.

She did her online shopping yesterday, and it came to 106 pounds, when she went to the checkout-it said it was only 32 pounds. She checked, and it said she had 75 pounds worth of evouchers.

Being cynical, she rang and they said that she'd won a 'survey competition' she'd entered a couple of months ago, and had won 75 pounds worth of vouchers. She asked if they were sure, the lady said 'yes, well done' etc etc.

It was due to be delivered today between 10 and 12, but got a phone call at 10 am to say there's been a mistake and evidently there had been a glitch in the system, and lots of people had mistakenly got these vouchers when they shopped this weekend.

She got a bit irate about it since she had called them to make sure it was correct-and doesn't now have the amount it originally was (please no lectures about how she should have kept it in the bank). As she was on the phone, the driver appeared, started unloading and got a call from his store to tell him to take it back. He then reloaded and drove away leaving her without shopping this week.

Is there any comeback on this at all?? And di it happen to anyone else??

Thanks for reading.

Comeback? She can reorder and they'll 'comeback' with the shopping! :D

No real worth in pursuing anything else

Gordi- what I meant was, should she have stood her ground and demanded the shopping at the price they quoted (and was assured of on the phone)?

Esqui, I guessed as much-but just wanted to check with you good folks :)

Evidently there was a hacker got onto the site and it happened to quite a few folk who ordered over the weekend. That's why I checked here, because usually this forum is first with the news.;)

I would write to head office and explain. They should have honoured the contract because they made a mistake... twice. That is no way to treat customers.

Thanks Laz. I didn't know what to tell her to be honest. Update is.. they've taken the 32 pounds out of her account for the original amount, and say it won't be back in her account for up to 10 days!! I know this is ASDA policy (happened to me before) but to me it's just been one big screw up from start to finish, as she now has no shopping, and no money.

And yes, it has happened to at least one other person on here - have a search. I think they posted about it yesterday.

They don't win, as such.Asda made a mistake. Your friend has not lost anything. She just hasn't gained the £75 that she thought she had.

According to the Daily Mail link, she should be getting a discount code and free delivery from them as a gesture of goodwill by way of apology.

She's better off than some though, who took delivery and then were told that the code wasn't being honoured. Not sure what's happening with those people as yet, but I would think that the sale of goods act would cover them for the discount as the goods were received and payment taken.
