I would welcome peoples thoughts as Ive read a lot of contradictory stuff. I want one-the larger and showier, the better, but it will have to survive the winter outside. It will be in container and I can cover it with fleece or soemthing. I live in the Preseli Hills, Pembrokeshire. I know that the Headbourne Hybrids are supposed to be hardy. Thanks.

Mine have always proved perfectly hardy (even after last winter) but I am in the South of England and they are in open ground. Containers pose a greater risk, as they will freeze right through, producing temperatures which, snugly buried just a few inches down in the soil, conventionally grown plants won't suffer.

Is there no way you could bring your pots under cover? A shed would do as they don't need light until the Spring. Failing that, I would try wrapping the pots not in fleece, but in bubble wrap.

    Hope that's some help.

Mine survived -15C in pots here last winter, except the tiny Peter Pan variety, which suffered a bit. Keep them dry in Jan and Feb, as well as under some sort of protection, and they should be fine.
