got any tips for saving our futon after bedwetting??

Just had family to stay and our dear niece who was sleeping on our futon wet it two nights running. Not sure what to do as we can't put the futon mattress in the wash and as it is a mattress it doesn't have a cover to take off. Also if we put loads of liquid over it to clean it somehow it won't dry properly and could go mouldy. We don't have kids yet and so don't really know how to deal with this kind of thing. Any ideas?
Thanks

some oxi-clean or similar should neutralize it- try it on an inconspicuous area first- if it's anything like a usual futon mattress it would take around 3 weeks to dry from being completely wet-those things weigh a ton.
Then mop up as much of the damp as possible and dry the rest with a hairdryer- if it smells like wee,or a bit 'ripe' during drying then repeat the process.Febreze might mask the smell a bit if you didn't get rid of it all.

thansk for the last post my son wets the bed quite regular and we have tried the cheap matress protectors which just rip and disintergrate, we have been using bin bags but they are not that great and had not thought of using waterproof tablecloth so am off our to get one tomorrow!
as for washing the futon matress dont put it in the bath as you will struggle to get it out as they weigh a tone before they get wet, if you want to soak it like that take it outside and hose it down with a hose pipe and some cleaner, then febreze it if there is still some smell.0 -
i would wash it with some washing powder and water, then lay it in the garden to dry. If, once dry it still smells, then spray with a mixture of vinegar and water, this will help neutralise the smell.0

I would just wash/soak the wet area with washing powder and leave to dry outside, we did this with a king size feather duvet that our daughter was sick over (never have sick kids in your bed!!!) and it is fine does not smell. I find the terry towelling waterproof matress covers are great I bought double bed size to ensure good protection on a single bed have had the same ones for years and never had to buy replacements and I have washed them again and again in the machine. We also have a quilted waterproof cover which is very comfy not sweaty and slippy!! I have bought them all from dunelm mill. I think they will be more comfortable than a plactic table cloth.0

Are you covered for accidental damage on your house contents insurance? If you are your insurance company will sort it out for you.Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in.0

Try not to get it too wet when you are cleaning it though as futon stuffing takes an age to dry and it can end up having a lingering damp smell.
I have heard sprinlinkg it with cat litter and leaving it, then rubbing with a bar of soap can work.
It wouldn't be covered by insurance as it seen as easily preventional damage.Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0
