NEVER BUY LEXMARK! I can't say that enough. The cartridges will cost more than £40 when you come to need a complete set.
So no, not a good deal IMHO.
For cheap cartridges go for Canon, or Epson.0 -
Oh, even refilling at that yellow shop?I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing!

The print head on a lexmark is built into the cartridge, which is one reason the carts are expensive. If they keep being refilled you will eventually need a new cartridge. Also some of them have microchips on to make refilling them difficult/impossible.0

Thanks for posting this, laticsforlife; but I must second anewman's position on Lexmark consumables. They are VERY expensive. Anyone buying printers should consider the cost of printing over the WHOLE LIFE of the printer. Lexmark's strategy is "sell printers cheap, and make profits on cartridges".
Always, always, always, check out the cost of [branded & compatible] consumables [cartridges, toners, etc] before buying any printer. I've opted for Epson for the last 5 years, simply because you can get very cheap compatible cartridges - and the printers aren't badly priced either.0 -
DO NOT get a Lexmark, the printer heads clog ALL the time, grr!! (if you don't use them for a while they stall, the same with Epsons) and the cartridges are SO expensive.
Get a Canon, Canons Rule!0 -
As others have said, Lexmark virtually give their printers away so that you are tied into buying their cartridges.
Even though Epson started to put chips into their cartridges a few years back, you can still pick up generic cartridges for buttons.
I tend to use:
http://bestpriceink.co.uk/
They do cartridges for most models of both Canon and Epson printers, for under a pound each. P&P is a fixed £2.99 so, as I tend to buy about a dozen of both B&W and colour cartridges at once, it's not too big a hit to take.
I have yet to get a bad cartridge for my Epson. In the past, I've had a few bad cartridges for Canon compatibles (lines in the printing which never clean up), but for a quid, I'm not too bothered about throwing away the odd duff cartridge.0 -
Its a complete false economy buying a Lexmark printer like everyone here has pointed out. I used to have a Lexmark (it came in a bundle) and when it ran out of ink I nearly fainted when I saw the price of the cartridges!
I invested in a Canon (had it 4 yrs now) and now I buy my cartridges from poundland! (cheap cartridges work great in mine, always have done!)"There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -

Have a look at http://www.ukdvdr.co.uk/shop/Epson-Compatible-Ink-Cartridges-listed-by-Printer-Model-c-271.html Oilbaby. My R200 cartridges work out at £0.78 per cartridge, excl P7P - which is also £2.99.0 -
Couldn't agree more about all that has been said about Lexmarks, used to have one (also part of bundle) dreaded times when had to buy new cartridges, now running an Epson all in one and couldn't be happier with it.
Just ordered a few sets of inks for it from PC World for store pick up- surprisingly cheap Epson compatables at the moment, touch over £12 for 3 sets of inks for my printer.0 -

Agree about everything everyone has said about Lexmark, DON'T GET ONE!!!
HOWEVER, I disagree about Canon printers, I had one and it broke, new print head was more than the printer!
On the other hand, my Epson R220 rocks, great photo prints and dirt cheap carts!!!
Get an Epson!
