Hello there
I have a Lenovo G550 running IE8. Previously, when I opened a new tab the page would show frequently visited web pages that I could click on. Now it just opens into a 'what do you want to do......' page. Is there some way of restoring the setting?
Thanks

Actually, that's old advice. If you wish to advise of a particular browser then Googles Chrome would be the one to suggest. Owing to the 'sandbox' feature making it difficult for anyone to get beyond.
None of these however answer the OP's request it should be said.
For that the OP needs to dive into the settings of the Google Toolbar that's perched atop his installation and alter the settings accordingly. Or alternatively, install the Google Chrome browser and it is one of the features, alternatively, there are a variety of 'extensions' as Google call them which replicate this feature.

Does that mean IE has a google toolbar which is causing the problems? How did it happen?0

Hi
Not sure how it happened. Daughter (7) was playing games on lappy and may have chaged settings unintentionally - or might have been Windows update?
Will have a look at google toolbar meantime
Thanks

Yes it could have happened as the OP pointed out, youngster clicking around and got a few lucky key presses that correspond to something. Alternatively, when you first launch IE8 it gives you a number of options, some of them are to install such things as Googles toolbar, have Bing as your number 1 search engine, connect to FlickR for uploading photographs etc etc.
It's their way of appeasing the European regulators I believe, but it must be said its also a means of providing the users with a wider variety of options and introducing them to the new tech included with Internet Explorer that they wouldn't have been introduced too had they not have gone through the IE introduction. Such things as 'Web Slices' which is not dissimilar to putting a bookmark on the bookmark bar of googles browser for instance, but instead of it referencing a domain it references a particular page ie: an ebay auction your watching.
