Hi,
Tried to turn my desktop pc on earlier tonight, and it will not go to post. There's no beep either to go into the bios. There is power to the pc as the fan for the power supply and the heat sink spins. The computer remains on and the only way to turn it off is by the switch on the power supply or at the mains.
Only one of the three optical drive trays will eject. The monitor says "No Signal. Check the signal cable!" I have tried to plug the VGA connector to the onboard VGA and still comes up with the same message.
Any ideas on what could be wrong? I have opened up the case to check all the connections on the leads etc, and they seem fine.
The spec of the pc is
Asrock K7VM2 motherboard
1.5GB DDR Ram
AMD Athlon CPU (can't remember the speed of the processor)
MSI RX9250 256MB AGP graphics card
Windows XP SP3 (kept up to date)
Any advice and info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i think you may have a broken motherboard ?
its possible that the motherboard was over heated and just went bang.
I maybe wrong but this is just a quick "off the top of my head" answer worth checking0 -
Thanks David. Not the answer I was hoping for.
I'll take it into a computer shop on Monday.

These sort of faults can be really annoying....start with disconnecting all drives, graphics cards, etc, so only the mobo is connected and try then. If no joy, unplug and reconnect all mobo connections. Mate of mine had this type of fault, tried everything with no joy, took pc to his cousin's place 150 miles away by car and the bl**dy thing worked straight off when he plugged it in ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Remove the onboard battery for a few minutes, try with only one stick of ram. Can you try another psu?0

Thank you to all your replies. Unfortunately i'm not too savvy when dealing with the insides of a pc. Always scared I'm going to fry one of the components from static, etc. I don't have a spare PSU, but I have a suspicion that is what it could be causing it, because only 1 of the 3 CD/DVD trays will eject.
I've been busy with work to take it to a shop to be looked at, but if it is down to the PSU, any idea of how much it would cost to buy and have a new one fitted?
Thanks again for all your help0 -

PSU £25 and fit it yourself, 1 phillips #2 screwdriver and 5 minutes
Loads~a~crud .. .. .. that static argument, can't believe it still doing the rounds after 20 years forget it
"" No Signal. Check the signal cable "" means video error, pull it out and put it back in and re-check cables
It's got onboard graphics has it ?, just pull the AGP altogether card for now
3 DVD's, for sure a pirate, pull all the power & data cables off at the DVD end for now, put them on later when sorted !
One and a half memory, where did that come from, although on those old chipsets you used to be able to get away with it
You must start with what ddoris says, take the battery out for an hour after completely unplugging from the mains
BTW this particular vintage of MOBO had megga problems with voltage regulator circuits, look at the capacitors are they bulging / domed / leaking brown stuff on the top ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Hahaha. :rotfl:Thanks for your reply. Let me clear this up before I carry on, nope I am not a pirate. But then you'll be saying as if I would admit to it on here.
Anyway, in reply to your questions and suggestions, i have checked the VGA cable is connected properly. I have also tried connecting it to the onboard graphics without the AGP card with the same result.
What I meant by the one and a half memory is that I have a stick of 1GB and a stick of 512MB DDR Ram in the 2 memory slots on the motherboard.
I'll take the CMOS battery out in the morning before work, and try it again when i get back. And whilst the case is opened, I will take a look at the motherboard for any leaking, etc.0 -

I was joking with the pirate thing, I often see box's with 4 soddin DVD's, you only need one, make and burn from an iso. I had a box some months back with an 8" cardboard floppy, and it was still working.
Anyway for the purpose of the test pull off the cables [ power and data ] from unnecessary peripherals at the DVD / not MOBO end.
If no good try it with only 1 stick of memory, they should be in matched pairs, or at least two of the same ie 2x512 or 2x256 etc !
If no good you need to borrow [ it's an aged machine ] a PSU and swap it over, if it works buy a~n~other PSU
Hope this helpsDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
